About Krishnabai
Krishnabai is psychotherapist with more than 2 decades of experience working with men and women to help free them from the scars of their past and to cope more effectively with the issues in their lives today.
The Center for Counseling
In 1988 Krishnabai founded the Center for Sexual Abuse Counseling (CSAC) as a way to serve adult survivors of child sexual abuse and their partners. It evolved into the Center for Counseling (CFC) as the needs and focus of her clients grew beyond the specific issue of sexual abuse. She now serves people who have a broad range of issues which may or may not include sexual abuse. Current services include individual counseling, group counseling, advanced group training, couples counseling, therapist supervision and training, and a speaker service.
The core of her work is the discovery and expression of the authentic Self. She focuses on the identification, expression, and resolution of emotions, commitment to honesty and the use of remedial education and information.
Individual Counseling
Many people begin their healing journey with one to one counseling. This format provides a safe, confidential setting in which to explore issues of great power and emotional weight.
Shame, fear, anger, doubt, betrayal and grief are often first expressed in the privacy of individual counseling.
Clients learn how to express their feelings in constructive and responsible ways. They gain an understanding of their history and how it may be affecting how they function in their lives today.
They are given a vocabulary and an explanation of the healing and growth process. Trust, safety, boundaries and sexuality are core issues clients may address in individual counseling.
For many clients, therapy is the place they use to practice new and healthier ways of relating to themselves, others and the world. It is their laboratory in which they recreate themselves as a more authentic Self. The trust they develop in the therapeutic relationship is then practiced and strengthened in their other, peer relationships as they transition out of individual counseling.
Group Counseling
At some very individualized point in a client's journey, she or he may choose to attend group therapy.
This often happens when the fear, anger and shame have decreased enough, and the trust and confidence have increased enough to tolerate the initial stress of meeting and speaking with other people about their confidential issues.
Most clients find group therapy to be a source of great support.
An initial commitment of 3 months is required. Many stay at least a year or longer as they discover how to use the strength and resources of the group to fuel their own changes.
Clients learn how to speak honestly and openly in a group, listen without judgment, give appropriate feedback and set limits. They share at their own pace.
Therapy groups are limited to 5 participants and are held in Ashby.
Couples Counseling
In Couples Counseling the therapist functions as an interpreter to teach speaking and listening skills, clarify communications and help couples with boundaries, agreements, compromises and truces. The number and frequency of sessions is determined by the needs of each couple.
Pet Bereavement
Pet Bereavement is a legitimate concern for those who have formed important or primary relationships with animal companions. Grief counseling about that loss can allow the person to openly grieve and move along in the healing process.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy which replicates the natural movement of the eyes during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) part of the sleep cycle. This therapy has been developed to help people process the undigested feelings and memories of past traumatic events.
Telephone Therapy
Telephone Therapy is available to clients who cannot meet in person. Please call to make the arrangements. This form of therapy may not be covered by health insurance.
